AfterOurs Urgent Care Opens Second Omaha Clinic
Unique Healthcare Delivery System Reduces Expenses

August 15, 2009 (Omaha, Nebraska) – AfterOurs Urgent Care opened its second Omaha clinic, on Saturday, August 15th, at 304 North 168th Circle, Suite 211. The Midwest Regional Health Services facility, located in Village Point and operated by Dr. Donald Darst, will continue to operate Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. AfterOurs’ board certified physicians will treat adult and pediatric non-life and limb threatening injuries and illnesses, Monday through Friday, from 5 pm to 10 pm, and on weekends and holidays from 8 am to 4 pm. The clinic provides on-site lab draws, x-rays, and IV fluid hydration.

The unique AfterOurs model of sharing clinics with physician practices that are closed during evening, weekend, and holiday hours has allowed AfterOurs to reduce their capital start up costs, resulting in lower patient care costs, expanded hours of operation, and their ability to staff clinics with board certified physicians. Also unique to AfterOurs’ are their physician referral policies. In Colorado, AfterOurs locations refer over 1,000 patients to community physicians each month. Patients without primary care providers (PCP) are referred to community physicians. Patients with PCP’s are referred back to their physician for follow-up care and additional treatment when needed. The distinction between AfterOurs’ business model and other urgent care centers has resulted in AfterOurs’ clinics being seen as complimentary to physician practices, rather than competitive. In addition to the model resulting in AfterOurs’ patients receiving priority appointments with specialists and PCP’s, AfterOurs receives hundreds of direct referrals from community physicians monthly.

“We believe the most important healthcare relationship a patient has is with their primary care physician. We don’t provide annual physicals, immunizations, and other primary care treatments. We let community doctors do what they do best – provide consistent care on an ongoing basis. Urgent care has a different place in the healthcare delivery system - to offer an alternative to costly, time consuming emergency room visits,” Christopher Rehm said. “All around, the model of working with community physicians, rather than around them, allows us to run leaner operations.”
